The Trustees: Spring BloomFest at Stephens-Coolidge House & Gardens
Back in May 2026, I returned once again to Stephens-Coolidge House & Gardens, managed by the Trustees of Reservations in North Andover, MA for a fun, festive event: Spring BloomFest. Having gone to Winterlights in December 2024 and a regular day trip in September 2025, I had already learned much about the house and gardens, which can be covered in those blog posts. After some deliberation on how to describe this beautiful adventure, I decided to write a brief explanation and then share a photo gallery at the end.
This garden was able to be restored thanks to meticulous records kept by its former owners, Helen Granger Stevens Coolidge and John Coolidge. The gardens were originally designed by famed architect Joseph Everett Chandler who specialized in the colonial revival style and also worked on the house. The garden has since undergone several renovations, including an addition designed by Louisa Bancroft Stevens (unrelated to the other Stevenses) for Gertrude Maud Stevens Kunhardt (older sister of Helen) in 1907, oversimplification in the 1970s, a replanting of roses in 1990, a full garden restoration in 1999, and a perennial garden renovation in 2013, and the latest rose garden restoration in 2018. Spring BloomFest takes place during a long weekend at the end of April at the beginning of May when the restored gardens are in bloom. The grounds are open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 for nonmember adults, $12 for member adults, $10 for nonmember children, and $6 for member children.
